What is a Facebook Pixel?
A pixel, now known as a dataset, is used to gather tracking data from Facebook/Instagram to a website. It is useful for analyzing traffic from ads, measuring conversion rates and more. If you are advertising on social media through Facebook or Instagram, the pixel/dataset can be an important component in reviewing the effectiveness of your ads by analyzing the data it collects.
Not sure if you have a Facebook Pixel?
An easy place to go to confirm if you do or do not have a pixel/dataset for your business is to visit the Events Manager in your Business Manager account.
When you are logged in to Facebook under your personal account, click this link to go to the Events Manager. From this page you will be able to tell that you have a pixel/dataset if you see:
- The name of a pixel/dataset listed on the page
- Data being collected from the pixel/dataset
Creating a Facebook Pixel/Dataset
Setting up your Facebook Pixel
Login to your personal Facebook account
- Login to your personal Facebook account
- Navigate to your Facebook business page
- Click on the Meta Business Suite from your page profile
- Click on the All Tools button on the left hand menu
- Click on Settings
- Click on Business Settings which will open in a new tab
- From here, click Data Sources in left column
- Click Dataset
- Add -> Name dataset
- Click -> Create
- Add people that are within your Business Manager account so that they can access and manage it
Configure and Connect Pixel/Dataset to your Website
- Go to Meta Business Suite
- Click All Tools on the left-hand column
- Events Manager under Advertise
- Click Data Sources in the left-hand column
- Under ‘Gather website events from browser activity’ click Setup Meta Pixel
- There are two options to integrate the Pixel/dataset code:
- Manually add Pixel code to website
- Use partner integration
