To get started you must have:
- A Business Facebook Page
- Administrative rights/page role to run ads
- Posts on your page – Boosting is creating an ad from existing content
To boost a post, follow these steps:
- Login to your personal Facebook account
- Navigate to your Facebook business page
- Find the post you want to boost – it should be on your page
- Click on the blue boost button
From there, you will want to adjust the following settings:
- Update the ad account you are boosting from to ensure you are boosting from your business ad account. This is located in the top right on a desktop/laptop computer screen or at the bottom of the screen by the payment settings on mobile.
- Review the goal and update. It is best to review the goal settings and choose one that fits best for your content rather than using the automatic setting.
- Get more engagement tends to work well if you are looking to reach more people
- Get more video views works well for video content
- Get more phone calls and get more messages tends to be more difficult, but could work well for your content

- Advantage+ Creative (if an option for you) can be left on. This will adjust which photo/graphic is used first based on performance if you have a series of photos included on your post.
- Review the button. It is optional to include a button on your boost. The button may include “send message,” “call,” etc.
- Set your audience
Determine who you are trying to reach. What age range? What cities/geographical area(s)? Your options include:- Select the audience Facebook created for you. Review what is suggested and modify to best fit your practice and service area, or create your own.
- Creating your own audience gives you the most flexibility. You can save it for future use.
- Local area works well if you are targeting a certain service area. Multiple cities or zip codes can be inserted, and mile radius can be edited.

- Set your budget and duration
Your budget should begin at $5/day. A boosted post should last at least 3 days.
- Define your ad placement
If you have both Facebook & Instagram for your business, you can boost from Facebook and include the ad on Instagram. You can also boost to Messenger if you wish.
- Confirm your ad payment settings to ensure you use the appropriate payment method.
- Boost!
After you boost the post, your ad will go into a review phase. The ad will be reviewed and approved or rejected based on Meta’s advertising policies. An email will be sent to the email address listed with your account in the Business Manager with information regarding your ad’s status. Receipts of the ad spend will also be sent to the same email.
